AVALON LAKES REVIEW
Avalon Lakes is the premier layout of the group a Pete Dye design that has been awarded 4-1/2 stars out of five by Golf Digest Places to Play! Green fees reflect the quality of design, conditioning and amenities at this facility ($135 walking and $10 including cart prime time weekends in 2007), with walking allowed at any time. The putting surfaces are amongst the best we have seen, and the course conditioning and surrounding landscape from tee to green are memorable.
There are 5 sets of tee boxes that allow golfers of all skill levels to choose a set that fits their game. Avid golfers will enjoy the challenge from the tips - 7551 yards with a 142 slope! Alternate sets measure in distance and slope 6932 yards/136 slope, 6491 yards/132 slope, 5558 yards/118 slope and 4904 with a player friendly slope of 117 for women hitting from the forward tees. As the slopes indicate - this layout will challenge all players from the three back tees, but from the two forward tees, this course is very playable.
Water is a strong feature here, with hazards coming into play on 15 holes. Are you a good sand player? Well - your game will be tested here as 125 soft white sand bunkers are located greenside or are situated near the landing zones around the manicured, bent grass fairways. These traps are of high, consistent quality however, so recoveries are quite possible. There is a mix of open and tree lined holes - usually with ample room for recoveries off the tee and greenside.
The golf carts are equipped with coolers, ball & club washers and rear covers to protect clubs during inclement weather. On course sprinkler heads are measured to the center of the green and Leading Edge Technologies GPS provides accurate yardages from tee to pin. The Bar & Grill is open from 11 pm, and full practice facilities are available. For more info, visit our page for the course, with direct link to their website by clicking here.
