WESTCHESTER GOLF COURSE (614-834-4653)
Ohio Golf Course Review
Westchester Golf Course in Central Ohio is a Michael Hurdzan championship design featuring bent grass fairways, tees and greens. The course opened in 1997 and features a fairly flat terrain with some perimeter mounding, highlighted by extensive bunkering and plentiful water hazards.
The course features 5 sets of tee areas with the tips playing to 7120 yards with a 128 slope, while alternate sets measure in distance and slope - 6754 yards/126 slope, 6320 yards 122 slope, 5625 yards/123 slope for women and 5163 yards with a slope of 117 for ladies hitting from the forward tees. As the slope ratings indicate, this is a player friendly experience for all levels of players.
On course sprinkler heads are measured to the center of the green and 100, 150 and 200 yards (plus 250 on par fives) are posted in the middle of the fairways of all par fours and fives. Hole location info is indicated by color coded flags for front, middle and back pin placements.
Facilities on property include a practice area with 10,000 square feet of putting and chipping greens plus a targeted grass driving range. The clubhouse includes a well stocked pro shop, snack area with lunch items, restrooms and deck for outdoor dining. There is a tent that serves as an outdoor pavilion for banquets and outings of up to 160 people.
Sand plays an important part in the design, with 75 sand bunkers strategically situated along the landing zones or positioned greenside. Avoid the traps and good scores can be had, as the fairways are generally wide and the green complexes are only mildly sloped and are quite approachable. Water comes into play on the perimeters of 6 holes.
