Walden Ponds Golf Club is a Tri-State favorite that is easily accessible from anywhere in the Cincinnati or Dayton areas. This layout showcases plush bent grass tees, fairways, and greens that meander through breathtaking views of the countryside. With four sets of tee boxes ranging from 4,885 - 7,001 yards, this Dr. Michael Hurdzan design is sure to challenge players of all skill level.
The amenities on property include an eighteen hole par 72 championship course, practice area, and a clubhouse with a friendly staff, pro shop, and a grill room with snacks, beverages, and other menu items. The Outdoor patio has a great view of the course. Practice facilities include a targeted grass range and a short game area with a large green used for putting and chipping.
There is one instance of dramatic elevation from tee to the green – on the par five 10th, which has an elevated tee box with a great view. There is room off the tee on most holes, but fairway landing zones are slightly sloping and surrounded by mounding in the rough, causing some uneven lies and adding to the challenges of the course. The green complexes are fairly level with the surrounding terrain. In some cases the putting surfaces lie below the surrounding mounds and bunkers, so a slight miss onto the slopes can kick onto the green .
On course yardage marking includes sprinkler heads measured to the front middle and back of the green, and markers in the cart paths from 100, 150, 200 and 250 yards to center green. Score cards include small diagrams of each hole providing yardage to fairway sand bunkers from the tees, green depth and pin locations. There are 81 sand bunkers, near fairway landing zones and surrounding greens, and water comes into play on 10 holes.
With four tee boxes to choose from, Walden ponds is suitable for golfers of all skill levels. Yardage and slopes measure 7001 yards with a slope of 134 from the tips, 6404 yards/slope 129, 5840/slope 124, and 4885 with a slope of 121 for ladies playing from the forward tees. Hole to hole, there are dramatic differences in length. The shortest par four is the 355 yard 5th, and the longest is the 475 yard 16th.
