Sawmill Creek Golf Club is the centerpiece of the Sawmill Creek Golf Resort near Sandusky, about 45 minutes from Cleveland or Toledo. The Tom Fazio designed golf course has been rated 3 1/2 stars by Golf Digest Places to Play, is a tournament shape facility with challenging undulating greens, strategic sand bunkering and plentiful water hazards. With the layout situated along the shores of Lake Erie, the lakeside breeze is a constant, and also provides a challenge for all levels of players.
The front nine features scenic holes along the meandering Sawmill Creek and presents a typical northern feel, while the backside more resembles the courses of the Carolinas - with weeping willows and large lakeside marshes. The large, manicured bent grass, undulating greens are a constant. In total 14 holes have water in play in some shape or form, and 50 sand bunkers are situated greenside or near the landing zones on the fairways.
There are 4 sets of tee boxes that play to distances and slopes measuring 6702 yards/128 slope, 6321 yards/125 slope, 5562 yards/111 slope and 5074 yards with a slope of 109 for men and 115 for women hitting from the front tees. On course yardage markers are positioned 100, 150 and 200 yards from center green on fairways and cart paths on all par fours and fives. Sprinkler heads on the fairways are also measured to the center of the greens.
On property is a clubhouse with pro shop plus Mulligan's Pub with outdoor patio - the perfect spot for a beer or margarita after a relaxing round. Daily specials compliment the varied menu that includes a delicious Lake Erie perch dinner and burgers that locals consider to be the best in the regions. Practice facilities include a short game area with a sand bunker, a putting green, and a driving net at the 1st tee.
