Royal American Golf Links in Galena presents golfers with one of the best golf values in Central Ohio, with rates including cart during prime time topping out in the $50 range in 2010. Located just northeast of Columbus and minutes from the I-71 and I-270 intersection, this Scottish links inspired layout features bent grass greens, tees and fairways along a gently rolling terrain.
Wind and water play vital roles in the course design, with hazards present in some shape or form on 15 of the holes. Forty six Sand bunkers are also strategically positioned along the landing zones of the off the tees or greenside. The Michael Hurdzan 18-hole championship design is complimented by top notch facilities including a grass/mat driving range plus chipping and putting greens.
The 18,000 square foot clubhouse is reminiscent of a Scottish castle, and includes a well stocked pro shop, locker rooms with showers for men and women, a full service grill room with a nice variety in menu selection, plus an upstairs event center that can accommodate up to 250 guests for banquets, wedding, outings and special events.
The course provides 3 sets of tee boxes that play to distances and slopes measuring 6859 yards/127 slope, 6407 yards/122 slope and 5172 yards with a slope rating of 117 from the red tees. As the slope ratings indicate, this is a layout that can be enjoyed by all levels of players. Long hitters will have ample opportunities to grip it and rip it, while novices and beginners will appreciate the ample landing zones. Wind, water and sand combine to keep the round interesting.
The course is well marked with sprinkler heads measured to the center of the green on the manicured fairways and 150 yard markers on the cart paths of all par fours and fives. Pin placement info is posted on each scorecard, with the putting surfaces divided in three sections on each hole.
