RIVERBY HILLS GOLF CLUB (419-878-5941)
Ohio Golf Course Review
Riverby Hills Golf club in Toledo is a Ben Zink designed 18-hole layout that has been awarded 3 1/2 stars by Golf Digest Places to Play. The course features distinction in design as the front plays over a relatively flat, tree lined topography, while the backside features a rather hilly terrain with creeks and a lake in play.
On property is a practice facility with targeted grass range plus putting/chipping green. The clubhouse includes a fully stocked pro shop plus snack area, and a banquet/outing facility that can accommodate from 20 to 175 guests. The banquet menu is varied with an extremely reasonable price structure.
On course yardage markers are situated in the middle of the fairways from 100, 150 and 200 yards from center green on all par fours and fives. Sprinkler heads on the fairways throughout are measured accurately to the green's center as well. Red white and blue flags determine front, middle and back pin placements.
There are three sets of tee boxes on each hole, that play to distances and slopes measuring 6853 yards/130 slope, 6488 yards/124 slope, and 6008 yards with a slope of 119 for men and 126 for ladies hitting from the forward tees. Although there are over 30 large sized bunkers near fairways and greenside, most of the challenge lies in the form of water hazards. Water must be cleared on the 3 of the 4 par threes, and is featured in some shape or form on 12 holes total.
Throughout the layout, golfers will encounter mostly level lies along the fairways and rough with exception to a few of the holes on the back nine. On the long par four 15th, the fairway drops down hill about 80 yards away from the green. Then on the 16th (a short par four) the green lies straight up hill from the approach position about 60 yards out.
