PINE HILLS GOLF CLUB (330-225-4477)
Ohio Golf Course Review
Pine Hills Golf Club in Hinckley just south of Cleveland is a 4-1/2 star (Golf Digest Places to Play) Harold Paddock Sr championship design featuring tree lined fairways along a rolling terrain, and is annually recognized as one of the finest daily fee courses in Northern Ohio. In 2007, the facility celebrates its 50th year, with ongoing celebratory events and deals.
On property is a 1700 square foot award winning pro shop stocked with the latest equipment and best prices available. Custom club fitting is done on property, with some of the biggest names and suppliers. There is large practice green and warm-up area (limited to irons and wedges), and locker facilities are also provided for men and women. A snack bar offers an array of food and beverages, and catered lunches and dinners are also available for outings and events.
There are about 33 sand bunkers situated near the landing zones off the tee or greenside, and water comes into play on 7 holes - mostly on the perimeters. Three sets of tee areas play to distances and slopes measuring 6782 yards/128 slope, 6373 yards/123 slope and 5585 yards with a slope of 124 for ladies playing from the forward tees.
Yardage markers are situated on the cart paths, on both sides of the fairways and 150 yard posts are measured to the center of the green on all par fours and fives. Most sprinkler heads also have measurements. Wiffle balls on the flagsticks indicate front, middle and back hole locations.
The course plays tougher than the indicated yardages, as many of the bent grass greens are raised with varying degrees of undulation, and the terrain is very hilly. The scorecards are helpful, as they have hole diagrams that provide indications of where the trouble is on each hole.
