Grantwood Golf Club is Solon just southeast of Cleveland is 18-hole championship course designed along a rolling terrain with mature trees lining the fairways and sand bunkers guarding the small, manicured green complexes. The gently sloping topography affords an ideal chance to gain some exercise while playing, as walkers are allowed on this layout at all times.
The course features a mix of tightly tree lined and wide fairways, with over 40 sand bunkers positioned near the landing zones or greenside, and with water hazards in play on 10 holes. There are 4 sets of tee boxes that play to distances and slopes measuring 6429 yards/123 slope, 6203 yards/120 slope, 5645 yards/114 slope and 5106 yards with a slope of 120 for women hitting from the forward tees.
As these rating indicate, this is a user-friendly design that can be enjoyed by all levels of players. On course the cart paths have measurements at 100, 150 and 200 yards, some sprinkler heads are measured to the center of the green, and 150 yard stakes are utilized on all par fours and fives. Color coded flags indicate front, middle or back hole locations.
The clubhouse includes a pro shop plus snack area serving breakfast, lunch and dinner items, with attached outdoor patio. Practice facilities include a grass range, short game area with sand bunker, plus putting green. There also are 15 covered, heated stations that provide a comfortable, year round practice environment.
A banquet hall services a variety of outings and events, with capabilities to host up to 200 guests. The property is located just 20 miles from Cleveland and 2 miles from Six Flags World of Adventure theme park. Re-designed and renovated in 2002/03, Grantwood has been consistently ranked as one of the top public courses in Northeast Ohio by The Plain Dealer.
