FOXFIRE GOLF CLUB - Foxfire Course (614-224-3694)
Ohio Golf Course Review - to be posted soon.
Foxfire Golf Club in Lockbourne just south of Columbus is a 36-hole championship facility that boasts two courses recognized with 4 1/2 and 3 1/2 stars by Golf Digest Places to Play. The Player layout that opened in 1993 is the more formidable, while the more player-friendly and value-oriented Foxfire course is the original design, created by Jack Kidwell in 1974.
The photos in this review are of the latter - the Foxfire Course, which plays along a mild terrain allowing golfers to hit off of a relatively level surface. Wide fairways provide an ample landing zone off the tees, although trees come into play quickly for those shots a bit off-line. Scenic water features stand out on this track, coming into play on nine holes, and 30 bunkers guard fairways and greens. Most of the mounding is strategically placed greenside to challenge the all important short game.
Golfers can choose from three sets of tees that measure in distance and slope 6891/126, 6576/121, and 5175 yards with a slope of 115 from the front tee areas. The course meanders through a very upscale residential community, with the houses adequately removed from the playing areas. The Foxfire course has 4 sets of tees that play to 7077/134, 6705/129, 6192/126 and 5255/123 slope.
The property features a beautiful upstairs bar/lounge with extremely comfortable seating and multiple televisions set up for the viewing of sporting events. Hot and cold sandwiches plus all the standard cocktails and beverages are available, and there also are banquet/outing facilities that can accommodate over 300 guests. Downstairs is a pro shop, and locker rooms with showers are also available for men and women.
Practice facilities include a grass range plus putting/chipping greens. On course, there are measurements to the center of the green on sprinkler heads, and 150 yard stakes are situated in the fairways of all par fours and fives. Color coded flags indicate front, middle and back pin placements on the large, undulating putting surfaces, some of which present tiers or ridges.
Nice facility, two nice layouts with varying designs, and friendly service - we highly recommend a visit! For more info CLICK HERE to visit our informational page with direct link to their website.
