Ohio Golf Course Review

Eagles Landing Golf Club

Eagle's Landing in Oregon is an 18-hole championship course designed by Brian Huntley and opened for public play in 1998. Recognized as one of Northern Ohio's finest, this course features impeccably manicured bent grass fairways, tees and greens that play along a layout nestled between significant water hazards and sand bunkers.

Water comes into play in the form of perimeter lakes, ponds and waterways on 11 holes, with some forced carries. There are also in excess of 60 soft sand bunkers located greenside or near the landing zones on the mostly level fairways. The sand traps are often sculpted into fairway mounding that border the playing surfaces.

Four sets of tees play to distances and slopes measuring 6866 yards/130 slope, 6475 yards/127 slope, 6047 yards/123 slope for men and 126 for women, and 5137 yards with a slope of 116 for ladies playing from the front tees. On course sprinkler heads are measured to the center of the green, and 150 yard stakes are also present on the fairways of all par fours and fives. Pin placement info is provided for on all scorecards. Partial cart paths promote fast play, as golfers can drive right up to their ball.

On property is a clubhouse with snack area serving beverages plus hot & cold sandwiches. There is a grass range and a large practice green for putting and chipping. The initial holes play through an upscale residential community, as do the finishing holes, while the rest of the fairly level terrain meanders amongst natural areas and fields laced with colorful wildflowers.

The green complexes are slightly raised, and are often open in front - inviting low running pitches and bump & run approaches. There are often gentle mounds located on the sides and backs. The putting surfaces themselves are of varying sizes and shapes, with many quite undulating. The par four 6th and 15 holes share a double green, separated by a huge ridge.

Rates at Stone ridge are very reasonable, and walking is allowed at all times. This is a pretty golf course, made all the more beautiful and challenging by the numerous ponds and creeks that help to define the layout.
