EAGLE CREEK GOLF CLUB (419-668-8535)
Ohio Golf Course Review
Eagle Creek in Norwalk is a beautiful Brian Huntley designed championship layout that has been rated with 4 1/2 stars (out of five) by Golf Digest Places to Play! Situated along a mildly rolling terrain (with walkers in mind) just 1 hour and 15 minutes from Toledo and 1 hour from Cleveland, Eagle Creek winds through woods, wetlands and valleys that create aesthetic beauty and challenging shot selections.
Water is a prominent feature, as hazards - in the form of creeks, ponds and marsh areas, come into play on eleven holes. The green complexes are frequently well guarded by soft white sand bunkers, with large undulating bent grass putting surfaces challenging the short game skills of all levels of golfers. There is often plentiful room off the tee, but players will need accurate iron play in approaching the greens, to score well here.
There are 8 sets of tee boxes that measure in distance and slope - 6603 yards/127 slope, 6419 yards/ 125 slope, 6234 yards/124 slope, 6041 yards/122 slope, 5835 yards with a slope of 120 for men and 128 for women, 5366 yards/115 slope for men and 123 slope for women, and 4908 yards with a slope of 116. Women playing the forward tees will find this layout player friendly, as many of the hazards are pretty much out of play from the front tee boxes.
On property is a clubhouse with full service pro shop featuring a wide variety of attire and golf accessories, with prices comparable to local golf stores. Lessons and a variety of instruction are available through professional staffed personnel, on the adjacent grass range and practice green. There also is Grille Room that features a typical golf menu in an environment overlooking the golf course, with facilities that can accommodate up to 150 guests for outings and events.
On course sprinkler heads are measured to the center of the greens along with disks in the middle of the fairways from 100, 150 and 200 yards out. Colored flags on the greens show front, middle and back pin placements. There are 33 bunkers in total situated near greens and fairways. Water hazards come into play in some form on 12 of the 18 holes providing most of the challenge on this beautifully manicured course.
