CLOVER VALLEY GOLF CLUB (740) 966-5533
Ohio Golf Course Review
Clover Valley Golf Club in Johnstown - just east of Columbus, is a beautiful par 72 championship course that features well conditioned bent grass tees, fairways and greens, along a substantially rolling terrain. A mix of wide open and tightly tree lined fairways are often flanked by natural areas and native high grasses, providing aesthetic beauty to a design that is as pleasant to view as it is to play.
There are some gentle elevation changes, and some tees also demand carries over water hazards and valleys, but generally speaking, Clover Valley presents an experience that can be enjoyed by all levels of golfers. There are 5 sets of tee boxes that play to distances and slopes measuring 7151 yards/131 slope, 6609 yards/125 slope, 6300 yards/122 slope for men and 131 for women, 6006 yards/120 slope for men and 129 for women, and 5495 yards with a slope of 112 for men playing from the forward sets, and 119 for ladies.
There are 34 soft sand bunkers strategically located near the landing zones or greenside, and water comes into play in the form of ponds, lakes, wetlands and crossing creeks on 11 holes - though most of them can be navigated easily enough. The fairways are mostly open, and are often laced with perimeter mounding. The greens can be challenging, as several are closely snuggled into complexes with surrounding natural areas, with one or two sand traps on either side. Some are tiered and others are only mildly undulating, but most have sufficient room alongside for reasonable recovery opportunities.
On property is a complete practice facility with short game area, putting green plus a beautiful targeted grass range. The clubhouse features a snack area with beverages and hot/cold sandwiches, and a pro shop. Rear weather covers are standard on all golf carts - an amenity that was greatly appreciated - especially since it rained during most of my review weekend in the Columbus area.
On course, yardage markers are located on the fairways at 100, 150 and 200 yards and some sprinkler heads are measured to the center of the green. Small markers on the flagsticks indicate front, middle and back hole locations on the medium sized, mildly sloped putting surfaces. On my late September visit, the entire course was in fine shape from tee to green.
Clover Valley is a beautiful course, with sculpted tees, perimeter wildflowers and tall native grasses providing color contrasts that create a soothing golf environment. It is also a great value - we highly recommend a round here! For more info, visit our page for the course, with direct link to their website by clicking here.
