Ohio golf course review

The Golf Club at Yankee Trace

The Golf Club at Yankee Trace, located in Centerville only miles south of Dayton, is a 27-hole championship golf course. With affordable rates and immaculate course conditions, we highly recommend Yankee trace for golfers visiting or living in the area. This beautiful layout was awarded 4 ½ stars, and named in the top 10 Municipal Courses in America by Golf Digest.

The photography in this review was taken on the Heritage/Legends course. The first hole starts off with a wide landing area from the tees, but the course tightens up around the fairways after that. The layout is well conditioned with seemingly carpeted fairways and soft sand bunkers to contend with near the greens and landing zones. The short, 320 yard par four 5th features a large bunker in the middle of the fairway and many more guarding the green. In most cases the greens are guarded very well by bunkers and mounding, challenging golfers to utilize high arcing and soft landing approaches.

In total there are 80 bunkers, 49 on the 18 hole course, and 31 more on the Vintage nine. Water comes into play in many forms on 6 of 9 holes for each of the three layouts, forcing golfers to carry water on the way to the green or sometimes aim toward a certain side of the fairway. Sprinkler heads are marked with measurements to the front, middle, and back of the greens, and 150 yard stakes in the fairways are measured to center green. Color coded flags provide pin placement information- red for front, white for middle, and blue for the back of the green.

Each nine hole course has 4 sets of tee boxes and its own slope and course rating. The Front nine (Heritage) ranges in distance and slope measuring from 2635 yards/120 slope from the ladies to 3499 yards/132 slope from the championships. The back nine (Legend) measures from 5204 yards/122 slope to 3640 yards/140 slope. And the Vintage measures from2320 yards/110 slope to 3186 yards/131 slope.

Important to note - that this is a public facility. The clubhouse has the appearance and amenities of a private country club with the friendly service of a family business. The clubhouse features include a stocked pro shop, locker rooms with showers, and a bar and grill serving lunch and dinner from 11am till 9pm. There is also a full service practice area on site with a targeted bent grass range, putting green, and short game area with a bunker.
